Lannea edulis (Sond.) Engl.
Lannea edulis is a dwarf shrub or small shrublet which reaches up to one metre in height with short, flowering, fruiting leafy branches developing from an underground rootstock. The woody rootstock is enormous with a distinctive bright red underbark. The leaves are divided into two to four pairs of leaflets. Small yellowish flowers are borne in erect clusters, followed by numerous small red to purplish-black edible fleshy berries. Incommon with other Lannea species, the fruits characteristically have little points at the tip. |
